Transportation Master Plan Update
Consultation has concluded
In 2018, the Town of Milton developed a Transportation Master Plan (TMP) to guide investment in all modes of transportation to accommodate the future travel needs expected from significant population and economic growth. The Town retained WSP in March 2023 to prepare a Transportation Master Plan Update.
The TMP update intends to align transportation policy with Milton’s growth plan and priorities. It will also reflect recent policy directions from the Province of Ontario, which focuses Milton’s future growth on intensification in the built boundary and developing complete communities through Secondary Plan Areas.
The Town is also in the process of updating the Milton Transit Five-Year Service Plan and the Official Plan. The Transportation Master Plan update will be the guide that combines all modes of transportation and identifies strategic improvements for each mode, to achieve a multi-modal future for the Town.
The Public Review Period has closed and the final documents are posted on the Town website.

Consultation has concludedThe Town of Milton has finalized its Transportation Master Plan (TMP) Update, a strategic vision that outlines planned improvements for walking, riding, and driving to 2051.
The TMP Update provides a framework to ensure Milton’s transportation network supports projected population and economic growth.
“As Milton evolves, we want to work with our partners to help people and goods move efficiently,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “This vision will help us make collaborative decisions that support urban and rural areas to meet the future needs of our growing community.”
Town Council endorsed the recommendations in December, and a 30-day public review period ended Jan. 31. Staff considered all public input, made necessary revisions, and posted the finalized TMP Update online.
Key recommendations in this transportation vision include:
- Upgrading transportation infrastructure
- Working to support two-way, all-day GO rail service expansion
- Improving roadways and intersections
- Addressing rural traffic challenges
- Enhancing truck route management
- Developing a strategy to reduce single-occupant vehicle use
- Introducing smart parking management, carpool incentives, and transit discounts
- Creating a road safety strategy with supporting policies in the Official Plan
- Conducting a parking study to optimize parking availability
- Encourage sustainable transportation initiatives
The Town will refine specific studies and capital projects as part of the annual budget process.
“The TMP Update creates a vision for our transportation future that is proactive, accessible, sustainable, and inclusive of all modes of travel,” said Jill Hogan, Commissioner of Development Services. “Thank you to everyone who contributed insights to this important plan.”
