The Town of Milton has finalized its Transportation Master Plan (TMP) Update, a strategic vision that outlines planned improvements for walking, riding, and driving to 2051.
The TMP Update provides a framework to ensure Milton’s transportation network supports projected population and economic growth.
“As Milton evolves, we want to work with our partners to help people and goods move efficiently,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “This vision will help us make collaborative decisions that support urban and rural areas to meet the future needs of our growing community.”
Town Council endorsed the recommendations in December, and a 30-day public review period ended Jan. 31. Staff considered all public input, made necessary revisions, and posted the finalized TMP Update online.
Key recommendations in this transportation vision include:
- Upgrading transportation infrastructure
- Working to support two-way, all-day GO rail service expansion
- Improving roadways and intersections
- Addressing rural traffic challenges
- Enhancing truck route management
- Developing a strategy to reduce single-occupant vehicle use
- Introducing smart parking management, carpool incentives, and transit discounts
- Creating a road safety strategy with supporting policies in the Official Plan
- Conducting a parking study to optimize parking availability
- Encourage sustainable transportation initiatives
The Town will refine specific studies and capital projects as part of the annual budget process.
“The TMP Update creates a vision for our transportation future that is proactive, accessible, sustainable, and inclusive of all modes of travel,” said Jill Hogan, Commissioner of Development Services. “Thank you to everyone who contributed insights to this important plan.”
