The Town of Milton is making major upgrades to Nipissing Road and Childs Drive. These changes will make roads safer, ease traffic, and support walking and cycling.

These improvements are part of the Town’s Mobility Hub Study and future growth in the area.

Project location:

  • The full length of Nipissing Road
  • Childs Drive, from Ontario Street South to approximately 300 metres east
  • Ontario Street South, from approximately 300 metres south of Childs Drive to Childs Drive

Project details:

This project will improve roads, infrastructure, and safety. Work includes:

  • Rebuilding and upgrading Nipissing Road
  • Widening Childs Drive to add turn lanes
  • Upgrading sanitary sewers on Nipissing Road, Childs Drive, and Ontario Street South (near Childs Drive)
  • Adding a new right-turn lane on Ontario Street South

The project will be done in phases, and will include:

  • Lane closures
  • Traffic control
  • Short-term road closures

Residents and businesses will receive advance notice with estimated dates for each phase.

  • Property access will stay open during construction
  • If work is needed on your driveway, you will receive at least 48 hours’ notice
  • Some work will happen at night and on weekends

    Project details:

    • Widen the road to three lanes: one in each direction, plus a shared center left-turn lane
    • Build a 3.5-metre-wide multi-use path for walking and cycling (north side)
    • Add a 1.5-metre-wide concrete sidewalk (south side)
    • Replace ditches with curbs and storm sewers, where possible
    • Adjust grading and driveways (some work may be on private property)
    • Upgrade 1,000 metres of sanitary sewer
    • Install a new traffic light at Nipissing Road and Childs Drive

    Traffic impacts:

    • Traffic along the entire length of Nipissing will be allowed in the westbound direction only
    • This will remain in place until the Fall of 2026

    Work completed to-date (March 26, 2026):

    • Preparation for temporary road widening to facilitate sewer work and safe passage of traffic
    • Sanitary sewer work at intersection of Nipissing and Childs

    Next few weeks (*April 6-18):

    • To facilitate sanitary sewer installation across driveways, crews will be operating on a 12-hour shift, consisting of a 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. day shift and a 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. night shift.
    • For the night work, the two driveway entrances to the Milton Mall (entrance closest to Dollarama and the delivery entrance behind Shoppers Drug Mart) will only be impacted between 9:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
    • Night work will only proceed once an exemption to the Noise by-law has been received.

    *Excluding Saturday to Sunday nights

    • Update the traffic signals at Ontario Street and Childs Drive

    Traffic impacts:

    • Childs Drive is now open to two way traffic – please obey onsite traffic control flagging
    • No access to Nipissing Road from Childs Drive (In place until Fall 2026)

    • Sanitary Sewer installation completed between Nipissing and Satok (Fall 2025 to early 2026)
    • Temporary restoration work (asphalt) – permanent restoration will occur this summer for private property and 2027 for roadway and sidewalk
