Traffic Calming - Commercial Street
The Town of Milton is potentially installing speed cushions along Commercial Street between Pine Street and Laurier Avenue.
Over the last few years, a number of studies were undertaken to assess the need for traffic calming measures on Commercial Street. The results showed that additional measures warranted consideration.
As part of the Town’s Traffic Calming Policy, 51% of residents directly impacted by the traffic calming measure must be in support for the measure to be implemented. In this case, 51% of residents with direct residential frontage along Commercial Street between Pine Street and Laurier Avenue must be in support.
How you can participate:
Residents living within the neighbourhood or on the affected road are encouraged to watch the virtual presentation of the proposed Commercial Street speed cushions.
After viewing the presentation, residents with direct frontage on Commercial Street are asked to complete the survey below indicating support or no support of the proposed speed cushions
Comments and survey responses will be accepted until May 30, 2025.

Share The installation of 6 speed bumps seems excessive for that length of road. There’s more of a speeding and parking issue when the high school is open on Williams Avenue. Buses park on the bend causing a serious safety issue, and cars are constantly speeding during the day with zero police presence. on Facebook Share The installation of 6 speed bumps seems excessive for that length of road. Share Why does there need to be 51% in favour..What i witness walking my dog 3 times a day..speed bumps should be installed regardless!!! I've lost count how many cars have overtaken another car right through the pedestrian crossing at ridiculous speeds, not to mention cars trying to break the sound barrier heading up Commercial from Laurier, and down from Williams to Laurier. on Facebook Share Why does there need to be 51% in favour..What i witness walking my dog 3 times a day..speed bumps should be installed regardless!!! 51% insures that we have residential support of those that live on Commercial Street. This is also the process that is outlined in Milton's Traffic Calming Policy.

The Town of Milton does not conduct studies of the noise of modified vehicles. This is the responsibility of Halton Regional Police to enforce these tickets.

JPetro asked 24 days agoThank you for you question.
Residents that live on Commercial Street are directly affected by the speeding that occurs and therefore, they are directly affected by the speed cushions that are being proposed.
We only require residents that are directly impacted for support.

If you have a noise complaint, please fill out a road watch form on Halton Regional Police Services. I have provided the link below:

Share The pedestrian crossing on Commercial Street at the pathway, is a marked crossing, but without any signal lights. The Sun creates blind spots while on this road especially in morning when this crossing is used by school students. It would be nice to see a push-button signal crossing included as part of this traffic calming agenda, both here and possibly at the city bus stop located across from the high school for better visibility during these congested times. on Facebook Share The pedestrian crossing on Commercial Street at the pathway, is a marked crossing, but without any signal lights. Different pedestrian crossovers are determined by the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT), number of lanes of the roadway, posted speed limit and pedestrian volume. In the summer of 2024, staff upgraded the pedestrian crossover along Commercial Street and the Trail Path to a Level 2 Type C with Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons.
Staff do not place pedestrian crossovers for bus stop locations.

LDemysh asked 26 days agoThank you for your question.
Installing "Traffic Calming Ahead" signage will inform drivers of the upcoming speed cushions. This will allow them to slow down well ahead of time to drive over the speed cushion slowly.
The speed cushions placed on out other roadways have shown great improvement on driver behaviour.

Staff have narrowed other roadways with pavement markings and it has not shown a reduction in speeding.
