Traffic Calming - Woodward Avenue
The Town of Milton is potentially installing speed cushions along Woodward Avenue between Ontario Street North and Thompson Road North.
Over the last few years, a number of studies were undertaken to assess the need for traffic calming measures on Woodward Avenue. The results showed that additional measures warranted consideration.
As part of the Town’s Traffic Calming Policy, 51% of residents directly impacted by the traffic calming measure must be in support for the measure to be implemented. In this case, 51% of residents with direct residential frontage Woodward Avenue between Ontario Street North and Thompson Road North must be in support.
How you can participate:
Residents living within the neighbourhood or on the affected road are encouraged to watch the virtual presentation of the proposed Woodward Avenue speed cushions.
After viewing the presentation, residents with direct frontage on Woodward Avenue are asked to complete the survey below indicating support or no support of the proposed speed cushions
Comments and survey responses will be accepted until May 29th, 2026.

Share Most of the accidents in the last 2 years happen when people speed along Woodward toward Thompson to make the green light. The last speed bump is proposed to be in front of house #909, which leaves plenty of space for people to accelerate toward the intersection still. Would it not be more prudent to move the last speed bump in front of house # 922 or #926 to calm traffic before the intersection? It would leave plenty of space for cars to line up at the light without sitting on the speed bump. If not, how does this plan work to reduce speeding at the intersection? I imagine this is also an issue on the Ontario St. side, but I live on the Thompson St side and speed is definitely an issue on Woodward toward the intersection. on Facebook Share Most of the accidents in the last 2 years happen when people speed along Woodward toward Thompson to make the green light. The Town of Milton follows the Transportation Association of Canada guidelines when it comes to the designs and placement of traffic calming. Speed cushions are to be placed a minimum of 75m away from any signalized intersection. House #909 is 100m away from the signalized intersection at Thompson Road and Woodward Avenue. A speed cushion should not be placed within the decision or braking zone area of a signalized intersection. Having the speed cushion placed at #909 will affect the drivers that try to make the green light at Thompson Road and Woodward Avenue.

In the presentation, we have mentioned that staff have traffic data for these streets as well. If the proposed traffic calming measures are implemented along Woodward Avenue, in the spring of 2027, staff will be completing "after implementation" studies to determine how affective the speed cushions have been along Woodward Avenue. Staff will also include studies along Lorne Scots Drive, Joyce Boulevard, Maple Avenue, Mackenzie Drive and Cabot Trail. If traffic has increased along these other streets by more than 25%, staff will determine if traffic calming measures are needed for those side streets.
Kind regards,

Yes, the flexible bollards will be installed if vehicles are using the parking lane to bypass the speed cushions. If the proposed speed cushions are installed, staff will observe the roadway and determine if flexible bollards are needed. If they are, they will be installed and removed in November for winter maintenance and then installed again in the spring.
