Milton’s Official Plan update, We Make Milton, moves forward

The Town of Milton’s review and update of its Official Plan took another step forward as Council endorsed policy directions for transportation topics that will shape the future of Milton.

At its meeting on June 19, 2023, Council discussed and supported policy directions for the Moving in Milton theme, which will help guide how people and goods move through Milton.

Moving in Milton explores six ‘Big Questions’ on moving people and goods in Milton, with policy considerations within the following themes:

  • Accessibility, Equity and Inclusion
  • Connectivity, Continuity, and Convenience
  • Growth and Traffic Management
  • Moving Goods and Services
  • Sustainability
  • Rural Area

Policy directions were developed based on community and stakeholder input, provincial, regional, and local legislation and guidance, and current planning best practices.

We Make Milton is inviting input on the work-related topics of Working in Milton until June 21, and will engage on growth-related topics of Growing in Milton later this year.

In 2021, Milton Council endorsed a modern, forward-looking land-use vision for the new Official Plan that reflects our diverse, young and innovative community: ‘Milton 2051: Choice Shapes Us. In 2051, Milton offers a diversity of options for how and where we live, work, move and grow. As we evolve, choice is what shapes us.’
